The Problem
Dining alone when you don’t feel like dining alone.

Background & Existing Approach
Globally, 330 million people will be living alone in the developed countries by 2020.  When it comes to dining, 35 percent of the people between ages 15 and 85 dine alone in the US.  40 percent of the 20s dine alone and the ratio is even higher for those over 50.  In Japan, 15 percent of those above the age of 20 dine alone almost every day.  Over 30 percent of them do not want to dine alone but have to due to schedule or lack of a dining partner.

Solo dining becomes an issue especially for many solo travellers.  Globally, solo travellers are on the rise, consisting of 25 percent of all travellers.  In the baby boomers segment, 40 percent of them has travelled solo in a year.  Some of them, occasionally, enjoy quiet time alone.  But for those who want company, existing solutions focus on finding other fellow solo travellers to travel with or connecting them to local hosts for cooking or house parties.

Our Solution
We aim to build an application where solo travellers can find a dining partner with a specific objective to dine together.  This dining partner may be another solo traveller or a local – whoever wants someone to dine with.  We believe our platform will especially be useful for those who occasionally want a decent meal at restaurants.  For example, a potential customer has told us that he would love to use our application to find people who would dine chili crab with him, as dining alone at a chili crab restaurant would be too expensive for solo dining.

Impact We Aim to Achieve
In Japan, solo travellers make up 22 percent of all travellers which accounts to 6 million.  With upcoming Tokyo Olympics, we believe that our application will enable solo travellers to experience the best dining experience Tokyo has to offer.

Partners Wanted for Trial Run Sep 2019
We aim to run a small trial to test our idea of this dining partner application in Singapore.  Singapore boasts 5 million solo travellers a year.  If you are passionate about making an impact and meet any of the below requirement, please get in touch with us.
  • Have a customizable matching platform
  • Have a booking platform for restaurants
  • Have strong restaurant network
